Why Visit Quebec City in July?

In my local opinion, July is one of the best times to visit Quebec City. First, because of the weather. Although Quebec is known for its harsh winters, summer is quite enjoyable and warm.

The second reason you should travel to Quebec City in July is its large number of fantastic festivals and activities during that period. There are many things to do, whether you want to enjoy live music shows or spend some time at the beach.

5 Special Events and Activities in Quebec City in July

Let me give you 5 recommendations to help you have a great time in this beautiful historic town when July comes around.

Enjoy the Festival d’Été de Québec (Quebec City Summer Festival)

The main summer event in Quebec City is undoubtedly the Festival d’Été de Québec. This music festival has nothing to envy big festivals like Osheaga or Coachella.

Indeed, for 10 days, various local and international artists perform on one of the multiple scenes in the old historic district, the most important being the Plains of Abraham.

Over the last few years, bands and singers such as Metallica, Elton Jones, Lady Gaga, The Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, P!nk, The Backstreet Boys, and Imagine Dragons have performed at the Festival d’Été. Various music genres, from country to classic rock, rap, and electro, are also presented.

Spend a Day at the Village Vacances Valcartier

Summer in Quebec City can be hot; why not enjoy a sunny and warm day at the Village Vacances Valcartier? It’s one of the country’s biggest water parks, with over 35 slides and a wave pool. And if it is raining, do not worry. There’s always the option to spend a day at Bora Park, the site’s indoor water park.

The Village Vacances Valcartier is located approximately 30 minutes north of Quebec City. A family hotel is also on-site if you wish to stay in the area and enjoy all the activities.

Visit One of the City’s Beaches

It may be surprising, but Quebec City and its area has many beaches. Therefore, if you’re visiting the old capital and looking for something to do on a hot and sunny day, it could be a great option.

Let me give you a few places locals love!

  • First, the beach of la Baie de Beauport is most loved. It’s located in the Beauport neighbourhood, only a few minutes from downtown.
  • Second, let me suggest the beach of la Promenade Samuel de Champlain. The pool has a fantastic view and seems linked to the Saint-Lawrence River.
  • Finally, you can swim in a lake at the Base Plein Air in Sainte-Foy.

Have a Picnic on the Plains of Abraham

One of my favourite things to do in Quebec City in July is to wander the Plains of Abraham, a national park in the historic district. It offers the perfect combination of great views of the Saint-Lawrence River and history; you can learn more about the area’s battles and significant historical events.

Since many restaurants, coffee shops, and bakeries exist in old Quebec City, grab something to eat and picnic directly on the plains. It’ll give you a nice little break, which can be welcomed when you have so much to visit.

Go Pick Some Fresh Strawberries in One of the Ile d’Orléans’ Farms

Here’s a secret: did you know that the best strawberries in the world are produced near Quebec City? Indeed, the Ile d’Orléans island is proud to have farms that make quality goods.

If you’re tired of the city, let me recommend you spend a day at the Ile d’Orléans; get some fresh strawberries and explore. Believe me, in July, these red berries are fresh and sweet!

What to Know Before You Go to Quebec City in July

You might wonder if anything is essential to know before going to Quebec City in July. Here are some tips to ensure that your stay remains memorable:

  • Many Quebecers are on holiday during the “Construction Weeks”, which generally start at the end of July and end in August. These weeks are some of the busiest in Quebec City, so if you can, try to avoid them.
  • Also, the old district will be packed with people and tourists during the Festival d’Été de Québec. If you are not planning to see a music show, you might want to consider coming after or before the festival or staying in another neighbourhood.
  • It can be hot in Quebec City in July. Forget igloos and polar bears and bring your sunglasses and sunscreen as shade can be rare.
