Do you like to travel during spring? I do! Often, you get better prices since it’s less busy than in summer. Is this the case in Quebec City? Is there anything interesting to visit during this time of year? Let me give you 5 things to do in Quebec City in April so you can enjoy the perfect getaway.
Why Visit Quebec City in April?
April can be a great month to visit Quebec City because the weather is getting warmer, and people are starting to go outside. Therefore, if you don’t like skiing or colder temperatures and prefer quieter periods, it’s the perfect time to go.
Although there are no significant festivals in April in Quebec City, there are still things to do around town. For example, you can still wander the historic district and its cobblestone streets. Excluding the Easter weekend, you should be able to find discounts for your accommodation too!
5 Activity Ideas in Quebec City in April
Are you interested but need help knowing where to start? Here are my 5 great activity suggestions for visiting Quebec City in April according to my favourites!
Eat a Traditional Meal at a Sugar Shack
Did you know that the province of Quebec is the most important producer of maple syrup? During spring, many sugar shacks are open to people who want to learn more about the process and eat a delicious traditional meal.
Since there are a few sugar shacks in the Quebec City area, I strongly suggest enjoying this sweet experience.
If you want to experience a genuine experience, I recommend the Érablière du Lac-Beauport, located north of Quebec City, or L’Érablière du Cap in Lévis.
Wander the Salon du Livre de Québec
One of the biggest book fairs in the province is the Salon international du livre de Québec, which usually takes place in April.
Every year, hundreds of authors, mainly from Quebec but also from Canada and Europe, come to meet book enthusiasts. Of course, it’s primarily for books written in French, but some are in English and even First Nation languages.
This book fair surely can tell you more about Quebec’s culture if you’re curious about where I’m from. It could also be a relevant visit if you are learning French, to get more practice in. Oui! Oui!
Be Amazed at the Parc de la Chute Montmorency
Another great thing I like to do in Quebec City in April is to visit the Parc de la Chute Montmorency, the famous falls right outside of the city.
Although you can enjoy this waterfall all year, I suggest seeing it in the spring when it’s most impressive because of the melting snow.
Fun fact! Did you know that the Montmorency Falls are higher than the Niagara Falls?
Here’s a tip: remember to bring a jacket or an umbrella because the falls might wet you. Also, dare to go through the suspended bridge to get the best view of the falls.
Visit Quebec’s Parliament
When visiting Quebec City, you might wonder what the important building with many sculptures in front of the Tourny Fountain is. It is Quebec’s Parliament, the Assemblée Nationale du Québec, and you can visit it with a guide.
I strongly recommend booking the guided tour if you want to learn more about Quebec’s political history.
Here’s a well-kept secret I want to share with you: did you know you could eat at the parliament? Indeed, Le Parlementaire is a gourmet restaurant inside the Assemblée Nationale where people, including representatives, can enjoy a nice meal.
It’s quite unique in the world to go for a meal so close to where politics happen!
Try One of Quebec City’s Vegetarian or Vegan Restaurant
Finally, the last thing I suggest regarding your visit to Quebec City in April is to try one of the city’s many vegetarian or vegan restaurants. As a New Year’s resolution, you may have decided to eat healthier or you might also prefer to eat more vegetables since the temperature’s getting warmer.
If you need suggestions, the most popular vegetarian or vegan restaurants in Quebec City are the Don Végane, Sushi Bloom, and Freshii, as includedi in this article about vegan restaurants you should read.

Preparing For Your Trip
When I look for things to do in my destination, I always have a look at Viator, GetYourGuide, Manawa, Civitatis and sometimes even Expedia.
It’s first off a great way to find out what there is to do, but always a quick and easy method to book cheaply and efficiently with these renowned platforms.
Need a place to sleep? I find most of my accommodations on Booking.com but I also use Hotels.com for their rewards program (11th free night) as well as Expedia. When booking smaller places in Quebec, you might not find them here and need to contact them directly.
Looking for a cheap flight to the Outaouais through Montreal? Have a look on Cheapoair or Skyscanner I use regularly.
Once you’re there, rent a car to roam free with DiscoverCars, AutoEurope or RentalCars or hop on a bus around Gatineau, Montreal, Quebec, and surrounding cities with Busbud.
