When it comes to finding the best vegan restaurants, Quebec City is more challenging than cities like Montreal, but it’s not impossible. Plant-based dishes are popping up on menus throughout the city, and there is at least one restaurant dedicated to veganism. The rise of the vegan lifestyle is slow in Quebec City. but it’s getting better, and some of the city’s best restaurants are including vegan options on their menus. Let’s chat about the best vegan restaurants in Quebec City.
Don Vegan, THE Vegan Place in Quebec City
Located in Old Port, Don Vegan is one of the only restaurants dedicated to veganism in Quebec City. It’s owned by the same guys behind La Bûche, Bello, and Le Clan.
The vibe is eclectic and fun, and in summer the patio stretches into Place FAO. The menu is exciting and packed with flavour – non-vegans love this place, too!
Reservations are not required, but they are highly recommended.
Bloom Sushi
In the neighbourhood of Limoilou, Bloom Sushi is Quebec City’s newest vegan restaurant. The menu has an impressive selection of futomaki, hosomaki and special rolls.
The crispy rice and miso soup are excellent too. The restaurant itself is bright and beautiful, an Instagram girl’s dream (ha!).
Bistro l’Orygine
In Old Quebec’s Lower Town, Bistro l’Orygine is known for serving dishes made with fresh, often organic, local ingredients. The dishes are creative and delicious. Several dishes on the à la carte menu have vegan options, and the six-course tasting menu has a vegan choice as well.
On Sundays, brunch on the outdoor terrace is always a good idea. When it comes to elevated vegan restaurants in Old Quebec City, L’Orygine is the best.
Bistro Hortus
In Upper Town, on bustling rue Saint-Jean, Bistro Hortus is a lovely bistro with a small summertime patio. It’s one of the best vegan restaurants in Quebec City, and ideal for vegetarians as well.
The menu has vegan veggie stir fry, pot-au-feu, and a yummy mixed salad. The patio fills up quickly, but there is plenty of seating inside.
Colibri
Colibri serves up healthy vegan bowls and wraps. The focus here is on sustainability, from the menu to the recycled light fixtures and organic paint.
They don’t use processed foods, and fresh ingredients are purchased locally. Colibri is located in Cap-Rouge, the suburbs of Quebec City, a short drive from Jacques-Cartier beach.
Le Chic Shack
Steps away from Château Frontenac, Le Chic Shack is known for their gourmet burgers and poutine. They are not the first-place vegans think of going, but they have a great vegan poutine on the menu with tofu curds and a house-made vegan sauce.
Other items on the menu can be vegan-friendly as well.
Le Casse-Crêpe Breton
This is an iconic crêperie in Old Quebec. Le Casse-Crêpe Breton is a small restaurant and fills quickly. The menu is crêpes, savoury and sweet.
While they do not have specific vegan dishes, they offer buckwheat crêpes, so many dishes can be made vegan-friendly.
Chez Victor
There are several Chez Victor locations in Quebec City, the closest one to Old Quebec being across the street from the Gare du Palais train station. They are known for juicy burgers and poutine, and the menu features a couple of gourmet vegan burgers. They have a vegan poutine, and dessert too!
Freshii, a Vegan Place to Try
Good news if you love dining at the best vegan restaurants, Quebec City has a Freshii! It’s in Montcalm, close to the action on avenue Cartier.
Freshii has delicious salads, bowls, and wraps, and the best part is there you can create your own. The smoothies are really good, and they have a kids’ menu.
Vegans can enjoy the deliciousness of Quebec City along with everyone else. Many restaurants have vegetarian dishes, which are also vegan-friendly, and some are happy to make adjustments. If you don’t see a vegan dish on the menu, ask. You won’t starve while looking for vegan restaurants, Old Quebec City has a handful of options. Happy eating!

Preparing For Your Trip
When I look for things to do in my destination, I always have a look at Viator, GetYourGuide, Manawa, Civitatis and sometimes even Expedia.
It’s first off a great way to find out what there is to do, but always a quick and easy method to book cheaply and efficiently with these renowned platforms.
Need a place to sleep? I find most of my accommodations on Booking.com but I also use Hotels.com for their rewards program (11th free night) as well as Expedia. When booking smaller places in Quebec, you might not find them here and need to contact them directly.
Looking for a cheap flight to the Outaouais through Montreal? Have a look on Cheapoair or Skyscanner I use regularly.
Once you’re there, rent a car to roam free with DiscoverCars, AutoEurope or RentalCars or hop on a bus around Gatineau, Montreal, Quebec, and surrounding cities with Busbud.

November 24, 2024 at 1:15 PMBloom Sushi and Don Vegan are 100% vegan restaurants. As far as vegan restaurants go, you missed the following: Les Mauvaises Herbes (On rue Saint-Jean); La Paleta and Café Mila (the latter serving mainly croissants, chocolatines, sandwiches and hot and cold beverages).
The other restaurants you listed are vegan friendly to varying degrees.
