You might already know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If it’s your first time visiting Quebec City, you might notice that even if we Quebeckers enjoy French and gourmet cuisine, our breakfasts are generous: eggs, bacon, sausages, bread, crepes, coffee… Let me recommend my favourite breakfast restaurants in Quebec City, so you have plenty of energy to discover the old capital’s beauties when you need to find a place to eat in the morning!

If your hotel does not offer complimentary breakfast, where can you eat breakfast in town? There are plenty of options, but here are 5 breakfast restaurants in Quebec City that deserve a visit, in my opinion.

Eggs Benedict With Salmon - European Breakfast

Le Cochon Dingue

Quebec City is a place in North America with many European influences. The Cochon Dingue restaurant is the perfect mix of French and Canadian cuisine. On the one hand, it has the decor of a café in Paris, and on the other, it offers the generosity of a hearty Quebec meal.

It’s true that Le Cochon Dingue is not only a restaurant that serves breakfast but is undoubtedly a great place to brunch with family members and friends. In addition, with their 5 restaurants in the city and 1 in Levis, there is surely a Cochon Dingue close by when you start to feel hungry!

Le Cosmos

Another great breakfast restaurant in Quebec City is Le Cosmos. It offers a wide variety of food and modern decor. Whether you’re looking for something more classic, like eggs and bacon, or something funkier, like their Mexican-inspired eggs benedict, you’ll have a lot of choices! Personally, I recommend their specialty: the cassolette.

There are currently 2 Le Cosmos restaurants, one in Sainte-Foy and the other in Lebourgneuf, and they’re open all day, from breakfast to suppertime. They also often have promotions, so feel free to look at their menus to stay tuned.

  • 5700, boulevard des Galeries

Le Buffet de l’Antiquaire

What about good breakfast restaurants in old Quebec City? One of the locals’ and tourists’ favourites is Le Buffet de l’Antiquaire. Close to the old port in lower town, this restaurant stands out because of its great customer service, reasonable price, and they also serve traditional food from Quebec for lunches and suppers. Therefore, it’s a good place to try if you want to taste some local breakfast meals.

An important thing to know: since Le Buffet de l’Antiquaire is popular, you may have to wait a few minutes before getting a table so try to arrive early to avoid that.

La Fenouillère

If you are staying in the Sainte-Foy neighbourhood or are looking for fine cuisine as a morning meal, let me suggest La Fenouillère. This restaurant has provided gourmet meals and breakfasts for over 30 years and is considered four diamonds by critics. Le Fenouillère is also inside the Hôtel Aristocrate Québec, a Best Western Premier establishment close to the bridges.

Regarding their breakfasts, the menu is relatively short but offers many eggs benedict, eggs and bacon, crepes, and waffles options. You can also choose to include breakfast for an extra at La Fenouillère when staying at the hotel.

Ben & Florentine

There are many Ben & Florentine restaurants all across the province, but it remains one of my favourite breakfast restaurants in Quebec City. I go there when I want to enjoy brunch with my husband.

What I like the most about them is their wide variety of plates (eggs benedict, crepes, waffles, eggs and bacon) and significant portions.

There are 5 Ben & Florentine restaurants in Quebec City (Beauport, Sainte-Foy, Chauveau, Ancienne-Lorette, and Val-Bélair) and 3 in Levis.

In conclusion, there are many options for breakfast restaurants in Quebec City. Whether you’re looking for traditional crepes with real maple syrup or some funkier eggs benedict, you’ll find a place to meet your needs wherever you are staying.

If you don’t have much time between visits and want to grab a viennoiserie, here are my recommendations for the best bakeries. Enjoy!

What to Do in Quebec City region and How to Organize Your Trip

Curious about how to spend your day in the Quebec City region? Here’s a list of the top activities to consider adding to your plans:

Preparing For Your Trip

When I look for things to do in my destination, I always have a look at ViatorGetYourGuideManawaCivitatis and sometimes even Expedia.

It’s first off a great way to find out what there is to do, but always a quick and easy method to book cheaply and efficiently with these renowned platforms.

Need a place to sleep? I find most of my accommodations on Booking.com but I also use Hotels.com for their rewards program (11th free night) as well as Expedia. When booking smaller places in Quebec, you might not find them here and need to contact them directly.

Looking for a cheap flight to the Outaouais through Montreal? Have a look on Cheapoair  or Skyscanner  I use regularly.

Once you’re there, rent a car to roam free with DiscoverCars, AutoEurope or RentalCars or hop on a bus around Gatineau, Montreal, Quebec, and surrounding cities with Busbud.
