Experiencing the Best Fondue in Quebec City

The best fondue in Quebec City is at home with a table full of friends, but thankfully there are a few restaurants serving delicious fondue if you’re around the province’s capital. Now everyone can enjoy the deliciousness, which is especially good when the weather is chilly. Which will you choose: Chinese fondue, cheese fondue, raclette, or dessert fondues?

La Grolla

Located in Saint-Jean-Baptiste, La Grolla is a popular Swiss restaurant in Quebec City specializing in fondue. The menu features cheese fondues, fondue bourguignonne (uses canola oil), Bacchus Fondue (broth flavoured with bacon, onion, garlic, and herbs), and raclette. While fondue is more fun with friends, La Grolla offers servings for single diners too, a plus for solo travellers to Quebec City. Yay!

Bistrot Le Pape George

In Petit-Champlain’s umbrella alley is Bistrot Le Pape George, a small pub with exposed stone walls and a small food menu. They serve a three-cheese fondue with fresh baguette for dipping, and a beer sausage add-on. It’s a great place to chill out, and it stays open until 3 am.

Le Petit Château

Tucked beside Fairmont Château Frontenac, Le Petit Château is an affordable family-friendly restaurant serving crêpes and fondues in downtown Quebec City. They have beef, chicken, bison fondues, cheese, maple, and chocolate. In other words, arrive hungry, bring friends, and have a fondue party!

Chocolato

Chinese and cheese fondues are great, but sometimes a chocolate fondue is exactly what we need to get through the day. In Old Quebec, Chocolato on rue du Petit-Champlain is a perfect place to dip fruits into rich melted chocolate. Miam!

Cochon Dingue

There are a few locations for Cochon Dingue in Quebec City, including one on boulevard Champlain and rue Saint-Jean. Here, the menu has three-cheese croquettes, which are fried cheese squares of Hercule de Charlevoix, 1608, and Emmental. A modern variation of Fondue Parmesan, a classic Quebec dish.

Cochon Dingue is not the only restaurant in Quebec City serving fondue Parmesan. This traditional food can be found on many menus. Some places make them with Gruyere and Parmesan cheese, while others use Quebec cheeses like 1608 and Hercule de Charlevoix. They are best when the bread crumb coating is crispy, and the cheese is hot, so don’t get carried away when taking photos for your Instagram feed.

Curious about how to spend your day in the Quebec City region? Here’s a list of the top activities to consider adding to your plans:

Preparing For Your Trip

When I look for things to do in my destination, I always have a look at ViatorGetYourGuideManawaCivitatis and sometimes even Expedia.

It’s first off a great way to find out what there is to do, but always a quick and easy method to book cheaply and efficiently with these renowned platforms.

Need a place to sleep? I find most of my accommodations on Booking.com but I also use Hotels.com for their rewards program (11th free night) as well as Expedia. When booking smaller places in Quebec, you might not find them here and need to contact them directly.

Looking for a cheap flight to the Outaouais through Montreal? Have a look on Cheapoair  or Skyscanner  I use regularly.

Once you’re there, rent a car to roam free with DiscoverCars, AutoEurope or RentalCars or hop on a bus around Gatineau, Montreal, Quebec, and surrounding cities with Busbud.
