Restaurants in Rimouski are among some of the best in Quebec. The Bas-Saint-Laurent region is rich with flora and fauna, many of which are featured in the local cuisine or terroir as we call it here. If you’re thinking the food scene in Rimouski might not be that great, stop, there are delicious eats for every budget!

Let’s chat about some of the best restaurants in Rimouski as well as some of my favourite I’d recommend!

Restaurant Chez Saint-Pierre

Colombe St-Pierre is one of the best chefs in Quebec, and her restaurant in the small village of Le Bic is spectacular. The menu features hearty dishes made with local terroir, and changes often. The restaurant has one service per evening, and the menu is blind. A meal at Restaurant Chez Saint-Pierre is over 100 CAD per person, and worth every dollar.

Across the street from the restaurant is Cantine CΓ΄tiΓ¨re, a food truck serving affordable elevated snacks. If you don’t have the budget for Restaurant Chez Saint-Pierre, stop by its food truck.

Reservations are required for the restaurant, which fills quickly. Both are closed during winter and spring.

Arlequin

The 20-seat Arlequin restaurant has an open kitchen, friendly staff, and offers an intimate dining experience. The menu, which changes often, and features dishes made with local terroir, changes often.

Chef-Owner, Tommy, walks diners through the menu. Bring your own wine and come prepared for an evening of delicious food. Reservations are required.

Restaurant Narval

Many restaurants in Rimouski proudly highlight local producers and flavours. Restaurant Narval is one of the biggest champions of this approach. The restaurant’s tasting menu changes regularly and features beautiful dishes packed with umami.

There are generally 8 courses, and the menus range in price from 86 to 93 CAD. A truly memorable dining experience. Reservations required.

Shaker

This Quebec restaurant chain is quite good. Prices tend to be on the higher side, but the food is good, and the drinks are even better. Shaker is known for their tartares, poke bowls, and burgers. The thick onion rings (served with honey) and baked brie are starters that rarely disappoint.

The restaurant is located inside Taverne 666. It’s important to note that some Shaker restaurants do not allow children as they operate under a pub/bar licence rather than a restaurant licence.

Bovino Grill

When it comes to steak restaurants in Rimouski, Bovino Grill is one of the best places to go in the city. The menu features delicious steaks from Western Canada, as well as oysters, fish, pasta, burgers, and tartare. They are best known for ribeye steaks though.

Bovino has a lovely wine cellar as well, and the prices are affordable. A great place for dining with friends or with family. A children’s menu is available.

Parfum de CorΓ©e

Satisfy your Korean food cravings with a meal at Parfum de CorΓ©e (Perfume of Korea), located on Rimouski’s main shopping street. The menu features traditional Korean cuisine. Try Korean BokkeumBap, teriyaki dishes, or bulgogi. And always order a side of kimchi.

Mains are under 30 CAD, and if you’re dining with friends, eating family style is highly recommended. Celiacs will be happy to know there are a few gluten-free options available.

KΓΌto

KΓΌto restaurant is a perfect spot to try a classic French dish, tartare. Ordering beef, salmon, or tuna tartare is always a good idea. There are classic tartares, but the menu has several flavour twists that are worth exploring. Maple bacon salmon tartare, Coco Loco tuna tartare, and Steakhouse tartare, to name a few.

The nachos or pub-style burgers are tasty. There are a few vegetarian options as well. Menu options range from 9 to 24 CAD.

Restaurant Gor Gin

This gem proudly proclaims they are the Asian restaurant in Rimouski. It’s located out by the marina, and a go-to for Chinese food. They have a lunch menu with combo specials for 11.50 to 15.50 CAD.

The regular menu has Cantonese and Szechuan specialties, as well as classic Chinese restaurant dishes. They also have dishes like peanut butter dumplings and sausages wrapped in bacon.

MacaroniBar

Do you love macaroni and cheese? Well, in Rimouski there is a restaurant dedicated to this cheesy carb-filled dish. You can order a classic, but we highly recommend trying The Pig or Buffalo Chicken mac n cheese. There are others as well. The menu at MacaroniBar also has salad, cupcakes, and pretty good smoothies. Prices range from 6.99 to 18.99 CAD.

Pub St-BarnabΓ©

Squished between two buildings on rue Saint-Germain Est, it’s easy to miss Pub St-BarnabΓ©. It’s a small pub-resto and can be quite lively too. The menu has a yummy array of pub food like wings, nachos, and fried calamari. There are also burgers, pasta, and poutine.

Prices range from 5 to 28 CA. The pub is open until 3 am, daily. However the kitchen closes at 9 pm.

Chef Fred Poutinerie

Poutine is one of Quebec’s best-known dishes (and the name of this blog!), so naturally I need to include a poutinerie in this list.

Chef Fred has 63 different poutines: shish taouk, miss pickle, mac n’cheese tacos are among the more interesting options. Many of the poutines can be gluten-free or keto-friendly.

The menu also offers hot dogs and burgers. Poutines come in three sizes, small, large, and family. Prices range from 9 to 43 CAD.

This is a small representation of the restaurants in Rimouski. Rue Saint-Germain is home to most, but venture off the main street to find other delicious gems. Of course, asking locals which restaurant is their favourite is always a good idea.

Bon appΓ©tit!

If you’re wondering what the must-sees are in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, here are some of my all time favourites and other amazing ideas you can book today to start getting ready:

Preparing For Your Trip

When I look for things to do in my destination, I always have a look at Viator, GetYourGuide, Manawa, Civitatis and sometimes even Expedia.

It’s first off a great way to find out what there is to do, but always a quick and easy method to book cheaply and efficiently with these renowned platforms.

Need a place to sleep? I find most of my accommodations on Booking.com, but I also use Hotels.com for their rewards program (11th free night) as well as Expedia. When booking smaller places in Quebec, you might not find them here and you’llneed to contact them directly to book.

Looking for aΒ cheap flightΒ to the Bas-Saint-Laurent through Montreal or Quebec City? Have a look onΒ Cheapoair orΒ Skyscanner I use regularly.

Once you’re there,Β rent a carΒ to roam free with DiscoverCars, AutoEuropeΒ orΒ RentalCarsΒ orΒ hop on a busΒ around Gatineau, Montreal, Quebec, and surrounding cities withΒ Busbud.
