5 Best Indian Restaurants in Quebec City

There was a time, not so long ago, when the list of Indian restaurants in Quebec City was very small. Thankfully, in the last couple of years restaurants serving Indian cuisine have expanded throughout the city. There is even an Indian-Quebec fusion restaurant serving Indian dishes using Quebec ingredients and interpretations. I can almost taste the aloo gobi, naan, and chicken korma now. Miam!

Let’s chat about these Indian restaurants in Quebec City.

Kundah Hôtel

This Indian-Quebec fusion restaurant has captured the hearts and stomachs of many locals. While the menu is not traditional Indian cuisine, the flavour profiles and overall essence of Indian cuisine are present. The paneer dish is made with cheese curds, which feels weird, but the Ribs Vindaloo are spectacular.

Definitely try the herbed green chutney as well. The cocktail menu is quite good. Reservations are highly recommended.

Cari Doré

On the corner of Avenue Cartier and Chemin Ste-Foy, Cari Doré serves up yummy traditional Indian cuisine. The menu offers a variety of dishes, from Kashmiri and Jalfrezi to Korma, Dansak, and Madras.

The butter chicken is on the sweet side, so if you want something with more kick, order a chicken madras instead. The biryani is pretty good here. Appetizer options include vegetable samosas, pakora, and onion bhaji.

Rice options include pilao and biryani, and the naan bread is an absolute must. Dine in and bring a bottle of wine or place an order for takeaway or delivery. Only combos, starters and sides are available.

Restaurant Shahi Tandoori

The restaurant may be on the small side, but the menu at Restaurant Shahi Tandoori is quite large. There are regional Tables d’hôte for 1 to 4 people: Agra, Bombay, Calcutta, and Delhi. Each one offering entrées, hors d’oeuvres, mains, and dessert.

The à la carte menu is brimming with traditional Indian dishes. Try chicken pudina, Bombay aloo, and partha. Love butter chicken? Here they let you choose a sweet or spicy version. Yay!

Note: Les Délices Tandoori on boulevard René-Lévesque Ouest offers the exact same menu.
