Restaurant Alentours was a nominee for the best new restaurants in Canada list by enRoute magazine in 2022, an exciting achievement for a young chef! The restaurant is located in the Saint-Sauveur neighbourhood, and uses only local ingredients (within 150 km of Quebec City). The menu features a handful of vegetarian dishes, and changes often. The restaurant is excellent when it comes to dietary restrictions, so be sure to let them know when you make a reservation.
Le Chic Shack
In Old Quebec, Le Chic Shack is known for having the best gourmet burgers and poutine. Surprisingly, it’s also one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Quebec City as well. Over half of the menu has a vegetarian option, so no need to stick to salads here. The vegetarian burger is delicious, and the La Masala poutine (available mid-June to mid-Oct) is delicious. They also serve delicious milkshakes and homemade sodas made with fruit purée.

Bistro Hortus
On rue Saint-Jean in Old Quebec, Bistro Hortus is perfect for diners looking for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes. The restaurant is headed by chef Stéphane Roth and has a rooftop vegetable garden. Try the vegetarian lasagna or pot-au-feu. The Hortus nachos, made with taro chips, are excellent, too. In summer the small patio fills quickly, so if there is space available, grab it – it’s excellent for people watching as you dine.
Bols et Poké
In Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Saint-Roch, pop by Bols et Poké for delicious healthy bowls. The menu is packed with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Bowls are not the only thing on the menu, they also have wraps, and half avocado dishes with an impressive variety of toppings. Dine-in or grab some takeaway and enjoy at your hostel or hotel.

Among the best vegetarian restaurants in Quebec City is Soupe et Cie in Limoilou. As the name implies, this delightfully decorated restaurant is best known for its soups. The portions are large here, so arrive hungry (and possibly wearing stretchy pants). The menu is filled with soups from around the world, and includes some yummy vegetarian ones. The taco coco, a breakfast taco, is tasty as well.

Preparing For Your Trip
When I look for things to do in my destination, I always have a look at Viator, GetYourGuide, Manawa, Civitatis and sometimes even Expedia.
It’s first off a great way to find out what there is to do, but always a quick and easy method to book cheaply and efficiently with these renowned platforms.
Need a place to sleep? I find most of my accommodations on Booking.com but I also use Hotels.com for their rewards program (11th free night) as well as Expedia. When booking smaller places in Quebec, you might not find them here and need to contact them directly.
Looking for a cheap flight to the Outaouais through Montreal? Have a look on Cheapoair or Skyscanner I use regularly.
Once you’re there, rent a car to roam free with DiscoverCars, AutoEurope or RentalCars or hop on a bus around Gatineau, Montreal, Quebec, and surrounding cities with Busbud.
