You might think that summer is the best time of the year to travel but let me tell you a secret: you should consider visiting Quebec City in September! Indeed, besides having the most enjoyable weather and scenery at that time, the area hosts various original events. Interested? Here are my suggestions and tips to ensure you have a great time in this wonderful city.

Why Visit Quebec City in September?
As you know, Quebec City is a beautiful place all year-round, but September is one of the best times to visit. The first reason is the weather.
It can be warm during the summer, especially if you plan to discover the old city on foot, outside all day under the hot sun.
In September, the temperatures are a little fresher, but comfortable. You’d only need a jacket outside at the end of the month or in the evenings.
And don’t forget the fall colours!
The second main reason Quebec City is great in September is the number of events and things to do with fewer tourists. Therefore, it’s more affordable to travel at that time than in July or August, for hotels and activities too!

5 Activities and Festivals in Quebec City in September
So, what else can you do in Quebec City in September besides visit the Château Frontenac and seeing the Chutes Montmorency? As a local, I have found 5 activities and events to consider when planning your upcoming trip.
Take a Day to Visit the Ile d’Orléans
If you’re tired of concrete and city walls, I suggest taking a day off and visiting the Ile d’Orléans, an island close to Quebec City known for its farms and handmade goods.
With a view of the St. Lawrence River and the mountains, this place will allow you to rest while discovering some great local produce.
Please note that the Ile d’Orléans is very popular in September because of its many orchards; apple picking is a must in the area, just like wineries and cideries. I recommend you avoid driving there during the weekend to prevent traffic and wait time.

Wander the Lower Town During the Saint-Roch XP
Not all events and attractions take place in the historic district’s uptown, and a great way to discover the lower town is to attend the Saint-Roch XP urban festival in September.
It’s mainly a music festival that promotes local artists and includes street food. Did you know the Saint-Roch neighbourhood is recognized for its many small and outstanding restaurants?
The Saint-Roch XP urban festival will occur from September 4th to 6th, 2025. It might be worth a look if you spend a few days in Quebec City.

Enjoy Alternative Music at the Envol & Macadam Festival
Even if the Festival d’Été de Québec is the city’s best-known music event, other festivals exist, such as the Envol & Macadam. Specializing in alternative music, this event offers 3 days of indoor and outdoor concerts in various locations in Quebec City.
Over the last few years, they hosted bands such as NOFX, Bad Religion, Rise Against, and SUM41.
If interested, please note that Envol & Macadam will happen from September 11th to 13th, 2025. Try to get your tickets as soon as possible!

Celebrate History at the Festival Celtique de Québec
If you’re more of a history enthusiast, here’s a special activity just for you: The Festival Celtique de Québec.
Indeed, even if Quebec is known to be linked to France, its past includes a lot of Celtic communities, such as Scots, Irish, and Britons. And as you may know, these people like to celebrate!
Enjoy food, Highland Games, music shows, and more from September 5th to 7th, 2025. A great thing about this festival is that most activities are free! It’s undoubtedly worth a look if you’re in the area.

Cheer for the Local Baseball Team
If you plan to visit Quebec City in September, my last suggestion is to attend a local baseball game. Quebec is proud of its professional team, Les Capitales, and they’ve had great success over the previous few years.
The series often starts in September, and the crowd is just amazing. It’s something to consider if you like baseball or sports in general.
You might think it may be expensive to go there, but that’s not true. In fact, it remains quite affordable, especially for families. Whether it’s the food or the tickets, you can get some poutine and hot dogs for less than $10.

Preparing For Your Trip
When I look for things to do in my destination, I always have a look at Viator, GetYourGuide, Manawa, Civitatis and sometimes even Expedia.
It’s first off a great way to find out what there is to do, but always a quick and easy method to book cheaply and efficiently with these renowned platforms.
Need a place to sleep? I find most of my accommodations on Booking.com but I also use Hotels.com for their rewards program (11th free night) as well as Expedia. When booking smaller places in Quebec, you might not find them here and need to contact them directly.
Looking for a cheap flight to the Outaouais through Montreal? Have a look on Cheapoair or Skyscanner I use regularly.
Once you’re there, rent a car to roam free with DiscoverCars, AutoEurope or RentalCars or hop on a bus around Gatineau, Montreal, Quebec, and surrounding cities with Busbud.
