Summer is a great time for holidays and travel. Are you planning to visit Quebec City in August? If so, you’re probably wondering what you should you keep in mind to ensure a memorable stay and if there are any festivals and activities to do. Let me tell you everything you need to know since it’s one of the busiest months of the year and one I love.
Why Visit in August?
Besides the weather, August in Quebec City, it is when there are the most festivals in town. Whether you want to learn more about the province’s history, taste local alcohol, or enjoy music shows, there is an event for everyone.
Quebec City is a wonderful place to visit during summertime. Of course, there will be a lot of tourists, but also guides and street performers to keep the city alive.
Local’s tip: if it’s too hot outside, you can refresh yourself at one of the city’s beaches or water parks.
Enjoy Fireworks During the Grands Feux Loto-Québec
The first thing on my list is the Grands Feux Loto-Québec fireworks. Whether you are in the old district or Lévis, this free event is one of the most important of the summer. It combines astonishing fireworks with music. Every night has a special theme, from country music to the Rio Carnival and the 1960s.
In 2025, the Grands Feux Loto-Québec will occur every Tuesday and Thursday from July 31st to August 23rd. It also starts around 10 p.m. and lasts approximately 20 minutes.
Therefore, if you are travelling to Quebec City in August, remember to save time to enjoy this light and fire show.

Go Back in Time at the Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France
You probably already know that Quebec City has a significant history to unveil. If you want to learn more about New France or how it was to live here during the 17th and 18th centuries, you need to participate in Les Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France.
At this festive event, people dress up and enjoy several activities related to the city’s particular heritage. Les Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France takes place in many locations in the historic district, but mainly at the Parc de l’Espanade.
In 2025, the festival will start on August 7th and end on August 10th.
Discover Local Beers at the Festibière de Québec
There are microbreweries everywhere in the province, and Quebec City is no exception. Do you prefer a refreshing blonde ale or a dark stout? Doesn’t matter, as you can taste all the local beers during the Festibière de Quebec.
This annual local festival will take place from August 14th to August 17th, 2025, at the Espace 400e, close to the old port.
If interested, you must get the official glass and purchase tokens to be able to order drinks. A drink requires a specific number of tokens.
If you don’t like beer, don’t worry; there are plenty of other options, such as ciders, cocktails, and mocktails. The Festibière is undoubtedly one of the best things to do in Quebec City in August.
Relax and Listen to Live Music at the Cigale Festival
The most important summer music festival in Quebec City is the Festival d’Été, which happens in July. Let me also suggest the Cigale Festival, which includes music, a beach, and good vibes directly at the Baie de Beauport.
Bring your swimsuit, your friends, and a towel, and enjoy music on the shores of the Saint-Lawrence River. In 2025, Cigale will occur from August 8th to 10th.
Visit One of the City’s Public Markets
Finally, the last thing I suggest is Quebec City’s public markets. They are the perfect place to get local goods or gourmet souvenirs like maple syrup or alcohol or grab something to eat.
There are a lot of choices, from bakery products to cheeses, jams, seafood, vegetables, fruits, coffee, and much more.
Quebec City has two major public markets: one in Sainte-Foy near the bus terminal and Le Grand Marché, which is close to downtown.

What to Know Before You Go
What is essential to know if you are going to Quebec City in August? Here are some tips to ensure that you have a great stay:
- As with July, August is one of the busiest months of the year. It’s part of the local “Construction Weeks”, during which many Quebecers are on holiday simultaneously. Remember to book your accommodation as soon as possible.
- The weather in August might be slightly colder than in July, especially in the mornings and evenings. If you plan to see fireworks, for example, bring a light jacket because the nights are chillier when the sun sets.
- Let me give you a tip: Quebec City will have fewer tourists at the end of August. Many activities are still available, and the prices will be lower when kids go back to school.
In conclusion, visiting Quebec City in August is a great idea! There’s a festival or special event every week in town, and the weather remains pleasant. Something will undoubtedly catch your attention when you travel to the old capital.

Preparing For Your Trip
When I look for things to do in my destination, I always have a look at Viator, GetYourGuide, Manawa, Civitatis and sometimes even Expedia.
It’s first off a great way to find out what there is to do, but always a quick and easy method to book cheaply and efficiently with these renowned platforms.
Need a place to sleep? I find most of my accommodations on Booking.com but I also use Hotels.com for their rewards program (11th free night) as well as Expedia. When booking smaller places in Quebec, you might not find them here and need to contact them directly.
Looking for a cheap flight to the Outaouais through Montreal? Have a look on Cheapoair or Skyscanner I use regularly.
Once you’re there, rent a car to roam free with DiscoverCars, AutoEurope or RentalCars or hop on a bus around Gatineau, Montreal, Quebec, and surrounding cities with Busbud.
