Top 5 Best Restaurants in Hudson, Quebec

I’m very proud to be from Quebec for many reasons but a big one is that I can travel to smaller towns and get incredible food from restaurants that are relatively unknown in other parts of the province. The leader of the best restaurants in Hudson, Quebec, seems to be Portabella because of its simplistic take on upscale recipes. But that is, by far, not the only option in this great little town about 45 minutes outside of Montreal!

Staying true to its roots, Hudson and its surroundings offer a wide range of culinary delights that require more than just a weekend visit if you want to make sure to taste it all. The more time you can spend here eating, the better. But if time is short for you, use this guide to make the most of your stay.

1. Portabella – Best Overall Place to Eat in Hudson

Portabella Restaurant in Hudson has gained a reputation for serving some of the best food in the area. The menu is diverse and presented in a way that allows you to sample multiple plates without spoiling your appetite or breaking the bank. From classic French dishes to modern fusion cuisine, they have something for every palate.

Start with their tartare platter that comes with tuna, beef, and mushroom tartare. This is a light opener that will awaken your taste buds and let you know what you can expect from the following courses.

If you had to choose one platter, you should go with Number 7. It comes with osso buco, filet mignon, and Parmesan mushroom risotto. This is a high-class dish that, if served in downtown Montreal, would cost much more. Portabella is best enjoyed with a group, so you can get a few platters and have a fancy family-style dinner.

2. Rubes – Best for Meat Lovers

There are several reasons why Rubes is the go-to spot for meat lovers in Hudson, and they all start with some of the area’s freshest ingredients. Rubes offers a wide variety of dishes that showcase the best cuts of meat.

One of their most popular dishes is the ribeye steak, a 12-ounce succulent piece of beef served with a side of potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The steak is cooked to perfection and is a definite crowd pleaser.

Another favourite at Rubes is the pork ribs. These fall-off-the-bone ribs are smoked and can be included on a platter with smoked chicken; all served with a side of fries and coleslaw.

3. Trattoria Lanni – Best Italian

From the moment you step into Trattoria Lanni’s warm and inviting atmosphere, you’re transported to Italy. The aroma of fresh herbs and spices fills the air, and the sounds of joyful chatter and clinking glasses create a welcoming ambiance.

OK, I cheated, this restaurant is not in Hudson, it’s actually in Vaudreuil, just beside.

Their menu features a variety of classic Italian dishes, as well as some modern twists, all made with locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. This ensures that each plate is bursting with flavour and provides a true taste of Italy.

Two must-try meals at Trattoria Lanni are their homemade ricotta gnocchi with a special tomato cream sauce and Nonna’s lasagna; both are true representations of traditional Italian dishes. Another signature plate that guests often rave about is the fettuccine de Parma, a hearty pasta cooked in a rich white wine sauce and served with crispy prosciutto and sautéed shallots.

In addition to their delectable pasta and meat dishes, Trattoria Lanni also offers a wide selection of wood-fired pizzas, all made with their secret family recipe for pizza dough. It truly is difficult to choose your entree if you’ll only be there once, that’s why it’s one of the best restaurants in Hudson’s surroundings.

4. Embers Bar – One of the Best Restaurants in Hudson for Date Night

The first thing that sets Embers apart is its cozy and romantic ambiance. The warm lighting, comfortable seating, and intimate atmosphere create the perfect setting for a cheeky night out. The restaurant also has a fireplace, adding to the overall cozy and intimate feel.

Embers offers a diverse and mouthwatering menu. For starters, guests can choose from a variety of options, including the popular salmon tartare or scallops and pork belly. Both are perfect choices for a romantic date as they allow for sharing and set a luxurious tone for the rest of the meal.

For the main course, Embers offers a range of dishes from land and sea. I vote for the duck confit pasta, served in creamy white wine and garlic herb sauce, as their signature dish. For fish lovers, the cod gnocchi served with herb butter is a delicious and lighter option.

One of the main reasons Mon Village is one of the best restaurants in Hudson’s vicinity for families is its extensive menu. From classic poutine to succulent rack of lamb, Mon Village offers a wide range of options.
